SEE Science

Boosting innovation through capacity-building and networking of science centres in the SEE region

Project co-funded by:                   European Regional Development Fund
Operational Programme:               Southeast Europe
Duration:                                     April 2011 – March 2014
Budget:                                       €2,165,130, of which €169,778 is budget of SCSTI

The SEE Science project aims to increase public awareness of the importance of natural sciences, technology and innovation as key determinants of economic growth. It specifically targets young people by creating new means to increase visibility and accessibility through science centres (SCs), established in most PP countries acting as a facilitator and disseminator of innovations. Implementation can be broken down into three phases, with stakeholder involvement as a continuous overarching activity.

  1. Joint analysis of operation and services of SCs; benchmarking and knowledge-building by appointed SC Agents to prepare a Transnational State-of-the-Art Report and draft SC Service portfolio
  2. Networking by SC Agents to develop cooperation with agents of innovation; implement pilot schemes to test jointly selected SC services and to create and test the main transnational outputs of SC cooperation
  3. Finalise core outputs: to incorporate results from pilot scheme into final SC Service Portfolio; to define a joint action plan to ensure the sustainability of transnational project outputs and the SEE Science network; finalise action plans for improved SC strategies for setting up SCs at project partners’ level.

Project outputs include

  • SC Agents & Strategic Partnerships – capacity-building
  • Action plans for improved SC operations - operational efficiency
  • SC Service Portfolio - enhance awareness
  • SEE Science Centre - ICT platform for SEE
  • SEE Science Festivals - good practice in community engagement

As one of the main results, the project partners will create a SEE Science network and acquire increased capacities to promote innovation effectively.
