| SUMMARY
Ján Hochmann: Interoperability of the information systems in the Slovak Republic The Government of the Slovak Republic in advance of
the accession to the European Union adopted the Policy of Society Informatization in the
Slovak Republic in its resolution No 522/2001 of June 13, 2001 and agreed the alignment of
our country with the eEurope+ Initiative within its strategic objectives. The knowledge
and digital economy which is treated as the fundamental starting point of the information
society development in this document is fixed on explosive growth of scientific knowledge
and fast development of information and telecommunication technologies. Nowadays the
information systems of departments (the library systems of the Ministry of Culture of the
Slovak Republic department including) are not able to meet this strategic task without the
sound qualitative change in term of contents, technics and technology. Therefore the
strategy of the information society can not be only focused on technical aspects of
advanced telecommunication infrastructure but it must be orientated on the field of
processing, accessing and making use of information resources as the whole. It is
necessary to realize that in mutual databases connection and common creating and making
use of information resources the value of the state information potential rises
expressively. Pavel Krbec – Jan Pokorný – Martin Ledínský: Interoperability in the environment of the Czech libraries The article shortly indicates in what directions the mutual cooperation of libraries in the Czech Republic is being developed especially on the technological level. It shows the leading role of the National Library of the Czech Republic and its most significant projects which entirely changed the working procedures and made many library processes more effective. It brings closer the project of the National Authorities File creating which brings so much necessary unique identifiers of the authority data into the library practice and the project of the Uniform Information Gateway which offers the interface integrating the library catalogues with the electronic databases to end-users and offers the system for the bibliographic records downloading at the same time. It introduces more closely interoperability and most used technologies in the Czech Republic – the MetaLib parallel searching in connection with the ALS and other information systems being used in the libraries.
